Beginning yoga

Attending your first class
Please try to arrive 10 minutes before the start of your first class. If you are new to Iyengar yoga it is best to attend an introductory course or beginners class to gain a basic knowledge. Feel free to try different classes to find the right teacher for you.

What to expect
You will be introduced to the basic asanas (postures), which include standing, sitting and recuperative poses. All the asanas have Sanskrit names. The teacher will show you how to use yoga props such as belts and blocks to help you achieve the postures to the best of your ability.

The asanas have different effects on the body and mind. The basic postures build strength and stamina, improve muscular tone, flexibility and alignment. Practising them will reduce tiredness and soothe the nerves. It also trains and disciplines the mind so concentration is improved

What to Wear
Non-restrictive confortable clothing, T-shirt and leggings or shorts. Yoga is practiced with bare feet.

Equipment
Just Yoga is fully equipped with mats, blankets, blocks, bricks, belts, bolsters etc. There is no need to purchase anything. However if you prefer to bring your own mat, you are welcome to do so.

Health
We strongly advise that if you have any health condition which may affect your participation in a class that you check with your doctor before attending. Please discuss any medical condition with us before the start of the class.

Food and Drink
Yoga is practised on an empty stomach, leave 3-4 hours after a main meal and 1-2 after a snack. You will not need to drink during the class.
